Tutorial:Adding images from Word documents using WordPress

By , published on 2nd December 2011

Sometimes people send images and photos in Word documents. Don’t ask me why, but it happens.

If you try to upload this Word document to your web page using WordPress, then you’ll end up with a downloadable file link, instead of the image. This is because WordPress doesn’t know what’s inside the file – it just looks at the file extension (the part of the filename with either .doc or .docx) and assumes you want to upload a file for web users to download.

To upload an image from within a Word document (.doc or .docx), do the following:

1. Open the document in Word
2. Right click on the image, choose ‘Save Picture as’
3. Give the image an appropriate name and save it somewhere handy, eg your Desktop
4. In WordPress, upload the picture as normal (choose ‘From computer’ and browse to the image you just saved)

That’s it!
